So what is “hedonics” and what does it have to do with food science? Basically, hedonics is “a branch of psychology that deals with pleasant and unpleasant states of consciousness and their relation to organic life.”
In the case of this study, food science researchers investigated whether the hedonic value of an appetizer affected the hedonic value of the subsequently eaten main course in a real-world meal setting.
What they found was that a really great appetizer effects the hedonic value of the ensuing main course or entree.
