Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is a great way to keep your body healthy. But did you know that it can also potentially help prevent the onset of depression?
Extensive research has been undertaken for years on diet and its effect on our physical health. Now researchers are exploring the link between nutrition and mental health.
Three diets were compared for this research; the Mediterranean diet, the Pro-vegetarian Dietary Pattern and Alternative Healthy Eating Index-2010.
“We wanted to understand what role nutrition plays in mental health, as we believe certain dietary patterns could protect our minds,” said lead researcher Almudena Sanchez-Villegas from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. “These diets are all associated with physical health benefits and now we find that they could have a positive effect on our mental health.”
