Damn! Shit’s turned green out there, man!
I managed to finish three Branches pieces in 2015. Let’s see if I can do even better in 2016. This piece is for my sister. Someone gave her the branch and she passed it on to me to floof up and make pretty. We’re still not sure what kind of tree this came from, but it’s pretty solid and really groovy. Darn thing is so big I can’t even get it all in the photo without adopting some weird angle or standing on a ladder. Yeah, Lola doesn’t do ladders. Nor do I want to crouch. It’s not befitting of a lady when she’s wearing short shorts. LOL
I’ve written about this before for STEAM Register, and since then I just can’t get enough. I would love to have my ashes spread there when I pass away some day.
Deep in the Chilean Desert, astronomers staying at ESO’s La Residencia, the VLT Observatory’s hotel, witness a skyscape like few others on Earth.
Designed by the German architects Auer+Weber+Assoziierte, La Residencia provides an oasis for those working at ESO’s Paranal Observatory. The Atacama Desert is one of the harshest landscapes imaginable. Extreme dryness, intense ultraviolet radiation from the Sun, and high altitude are a normal part of everyday life. However, come nightfall, La Residencia experiences some of the best observing conditions in the world.
La Residencia and ESO’s Very Large Telescope — housed at the Paranal Observatory — are far from sources of light pollution, and experience exceptionally clear atmospheric conditions. On moonless nights, the sky can be so clear and dark that light from the Milky Way casts a shadow on the ground! These factors permit high quality scientific observations to be made as well as offering amazing conditions for astrophotography, exemplified in this stunning shot taken by Luis Calçada, a motion graphic designer at ESO’s headquarters in Garching, Germany.
In this photograph, the plane of the Milky Way can be seen above La Residencia, as passing staff members take a moment to admire the spectacular sight.

So, I finally got my sneakers this morning. I’ve been rather OCD about checking the UPS tracking on them over the last week. More out of excitement really.
These Zazzle sneakers are based on a painting of mine that everyone adores. See, I can already tell that he’s one that will be hard to let go, at whatever price (even though he did spend the summer entertaining kids at a local public library). That’s why I’m now starting to implant him on products. That way everyone can enjoy.
So here’s the Zazzle pic…
Not bad for on-demand printing! Yes, my feet are tiny. No, I don’t have cankles. The camera angle was just weird.
If you want to grab a pair of your very own, head on over to Zazzle!
I can make high top and slip-on varieties if you want a customer order.
A simple dish with a delightful bite! The star is the dewberry orange glaze, made using my father’s homemade dewberry jam. You can substitute any other seedless berry jam, of course. Continue reading
